ISBN and ISSN
ISBN, International Standard Book Number, is used for indentifying printed monographic media. This means that books, dissertations and reports are assigned a unique combination of figures when being published.

ISBN for Dissertations
Before you may receive an ISBN by the University Library (UB) the title of your dissertation must be established. The international standard book number needs to be printed in your dissertation.
ISBN consists of 13 figures in five groups separated by hyphens. Example: ISBN 978-91-7264-274-4. If your dissertation is published in a series it must have an ISSN assigned as well.
ISSN
ISSN, International Standard Serial Number, identifies continuous resources. The number indicates a series and is provided by the publishing unit. ISSN consists of 8 figures in two groups of four, separated by a hyphen. Example: ISSN 1404-3815
