You will need your library card at all times for borrowing books at Umeå University Library. Please check out the materials in our self-service check-out machines using your library card and the PIN you chose when you registered in our system.

Library Card

You do not need to be registered at the university to get a library card, but you do have to be 18 years or older. After you have applied for a library card, you may pick up your library card at the information desk on producing your photo ID. Apply for a library card

Loan Period

Loan period for textbooks (Textbook Collection): 14 days
Loan period for regular books: 30 days

Renew your loans

You may renew your loans in our catalogue Album. Go to "My Info" and log in with your library card number and your PIN (if you have not yet chosen a PIN, it will be the last 4 digits in your personal ID). You may renew your loans as long as nobody else is waiting in line for the book. Sign in to "My Info" in Album

Reserve a book that is out on loan

If the book you want is checked out you may sign up in the waiting list in Album. When a copy of the book has arrived for you, a text message and an e-mail will be sent to you. Please pick up within three days!

Returns

To get a receipt for your returns, please return your loans in our return units in the University Library (UB) or at the return desk in the Medical Library (MB). During off hours you may return your books in one of the book drops outside both libraries. Please note, no receipt will be issued in that case.
